Best Songs of the Week: 3 August

We take a look back at our favourite music releases from the past seven days with Best Songs of the Week. Explore the archive.

Future – You Da Baddest feat. Nicki Minaj

Future finally dropped the music video for “You Da Baddest” featuring Nivki Minaj – which she teased on her social media back in February on their collab. The track is off of his “HNDRXX” album which was released February 24th. The video shows the two on a resort and Nicki Minaj being her bad self causes attention from other hotel guests. With a man in a relationship, the hotel maid, bellhop and other women – she causes some chaos and envy with her beauty. Future singing the chorus: “You know you da baddest baby, f*ck them h*es, f*ck them h*es” – he’s claiming Nicki as the baddest in the game.

Kendrick Lamar – LOYALTY. feat. Rihanna

Kendrick Lamar dropped “DAMN.” back in April and has already dropped a few music videos including “HUMBLE”., “DNA.” and “ELEMENT.”, but this week he dropped visuals for “LOYALTY.” with Rihanna. Directed by Dave Meyers & the little homies, Kendrick and Rihanna act in “LOYALTY.” making it a short film almost. The two cause chaos in the streets, lay together on top of a building, and crash a car that they stole while laughing, but it has a deeper meaning. An anthem for those who stay loyal, or question where the line gets drawn for their loyalty, they both express their fame and how hard it is to stay humble at their level of success.

Vic Mensa – Homewrecker feat. Weezer

Vic Mensa just dropped his new album “Autobiography” on July 28th, with one of the tracks featuring Weezer for “Homewrecker”. Vic Mensa gets personal on this album – with “Homewrecker” being an anthem for those in confusing relationships. Reflecting on wanting to let go of someone but knowing it is harder than it is set out to be – cheating, chaos and arguments, admitting to your mistakes is healthy to express in order to help heal.

Dave East – Perfect feat. Chris Brown

Dave East and Chris Brown speak about their ideal woman and the sensual relations they want with other woman in “Perfect” – while admitting that she deserves it all. Chris Brown searching for the perfect one while Dave raps about spoiling a chick, messing with other woman and putting them on a plane. Chris Brown admits letting a good girl go – and Dave saying if you stick with him you’ll win. On August 18th Dave East will be dropping a new project since his last album, with his “Paranoia” EP.

SZA – Supermodel

SZA‘s highly anticipated “Ctrl” album finally came out this summer on June 9th with features from Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad, and James Fauntleroy but has a lot of solo tracks proving her growth and artistry. Being a huge support and relation to other women – SZA‘s “Supermodel” video helps other women realise their worth in the relationship and self-worth. From fairy dust, fairy children and walking through a forest, SZA finally gets her revenge from a past lover by shooting fireworks at him with the fairy children.

Avelino – Origami

Avelino has managed to get more recognised with his music and introduction to his sound in 2016 with his “F.Y.O.” EP and has steadily been on the radar and on the come up. With his hit track “Energy” with Skepta and Stormzy – he dropped a new single “Origami” which proves his abilities and lyricism Avelino is still one of the most underrated, but hopefully with the new music he’s working on that will all change.
